My Outdoors Product of the Year 2015 - Cycling Editors Choice

Written by

Well I'm a year into reviewing and just over 6 months into the Cycling Gig and I've seen had amazing products to test. All in all I can say I've only been disappointed once yet suprised often.

Trying to pick a single item has been tough and notable mentions must go to Platypus for their new MTB packs and NiteBright for their innotative extreme visiability safety system. However the final choice was a close fight between two items that make me smile everytime I use them. The LED Lenser XE019R headtorch/headlight/floodlight/supernova and Henty's Tube bag. After much internal dialogue and many a sleepless night I finally chose. My final decision came down to this. The XE019R and it's 2000 lumens is an awesome, awesome piece of kit but I sort of expected it to be so I went with Henty's Tube which I knew nothing of before coming across it at this years Cycle Show and changed the way I think about commuting bags.

I have size 12.5/13 feet depending on the make so finding a commuting bag that I can fit shoes in as well as work clothes, a D-lock and the occasional bottle of wine is a chore. The Tube is designed to be used for the gym or even the beach as well as accommodating work clothes and the one I had claimed to be 20 litres. Without filling it with water I can't be sure but it seems a big twenty litres. I could fit everything in it. The bag defies the laws of Physics. I'm still trying to work out exactly how it does it.

The other thing that really impressed me about the Tube was it actually looks good. Bike sacks are either MTB style packs, hipster messager bags or dry bags with ruck sack straps attached as an afterthought to get the lycra pound. This bag is none of these things. It is functional, practical and extremely well built yet stylish enough for me to carry through airports and even use on my prettiest machine.

Both the LED Lenser XE019R and Henty's Tube have the wow factor. Both have become staples of my cycling life and I'm starting to bore people raving on about them but Henty have totally astounded me with a brilliant product. So there we have it. My cycling product of 2015 is Henty's Tube.
